How to get rid of car odours: smoke, pets and damp
Air fresheners mask odours, they don't remove them. This is how to really get rid of smoke, pet or damp smells.

A bad smell in the car hits you as soon as you open the door, and air fresheners only hide it for a while. To remove it you have to go to the source.
Where the smell comes from
Odours cling to the fibres of the upholstery, carpet, headliner and air conditioning vents. Smoke, pet hair, spilled food and trapped damp are the most common causes.
As long as the source is there, the smell comes back whenever the cabin heats up, which happens a lot under the Costa del Sol sun.
What works
Vacuuming thoroughly, including seat gaps and under the mats.
Cleaning the upholstery with products made for fabric or leather.
Treating the cabin with ozone, which breaks down odour molecules instead of masking them.
Sanitising the air vents, where damp and bacteria build up.
And leather
With leather seats, cleaning isn't enough: they need conditioning too, as sun-dried leather cracks and holds on to more dirt.
